WHY SOLAR?
Presently, most electricity in the US is produced at centralized plants and distributed through an extensive grid network to electricity users. While these plants often have excellent economies of scale, they typically distribute electricity over a long distance, which leads to a loss of power during transmission. These plants are also being strained by an increase in electricity demand. Solar, one of the cleanest sources of energy available, is one solution to this problem.Solar energy systems allow for ‘distributed’ electricity generation. Distributed power sources, also called on-site, dispersed or decentralized power sources, reduce the amount of energy lost during transmission because the electricity is generated close to where it is used. For Photon customers, the electricty is generated on their property – on a rooftop or parking structure, for example. Distributed solar power sources, produce less pollution and have lower transmission costs. This remarkable alternative allows organizations to provide a visible contribution to environmental responsibility and energy security.
